Budgeting Your Stockpile

So, now that you know what your want to stockpile and what a good price for those items will be, you need to set up a budget so you do not go crazy when you see all these deals and spend money that needs to go to other areas of your household.

How are you going to do that?  First, figure up your grocery budget and set it to include an amount for building your stockpile.

  • $Need$ + $Stockpile$ = Total Grocery Budget
  • As your stockpile grows, the $Needs$ amount will shrink.

You can spend the stockpile money ONLY on stockpile items.  Do not be tempted to use it in other areas because when a HOT deal comes along and your money is gone, you will regret it.

How can you avoid overspending your budget?  Use the Envelope System recommended by Dave Ramsey.  You place cash in an envelope to help you stick to your budget.  Shopping with cash makes you shop smarter.  No more mindlessly wandering through a store.   You have to avoid impulse buys to get the items you truly need.  Plus, it challenges you to buy more with less.

Now, here is a tip:  Fill your stockpile envelope weekly, not monthly, so you are not tempted to spend it all in one week.  Divide the money by four weeks so you can watch the ads weekly.  When the envelope is empty, toss the sales ads in the recycle bin and avoid the online blogs to keep from spending money that should go elsewhere.

Your Assignment/s:

(1) Sit down and set your grocery budget.  Make an envelope for your grocery money and your stockpile money.  If you are a scrapbooking person, you can even decorate it but you have to post pics. LOL

(2) Add ten more items to your price book worksheets.  If you are struggling to know a price on something, post a comment and see if we can help you.

This is where I have a serious problem because i don’t want to miss any deal and try to go to cvs every week and walgreens only when it’s great. Publix I usually want to go every week but actually go only biweekly wich is how I get paid and hate when I miss deals and it seems the best deals are when i am not shopping, any suggestions on what a good stockpile $$$ amount is?

It really depends on how much you can afford. In the beginning, I was trying to keep it close to $20 a week for stockpile. Now, my entire grocery budget is $50 per week.
