Succeeding at this is not difficult. You just need to change the way you think about grocery shopping.
The changes you make will be difficult at first because chances are, it will go against everything you have heard and believe about going to the grocery store, but as you see the savings start to pile up, it will be easier to adapt to this new lifestyle.
What is your shopping style? Do you run to the store several times a week? Do you go weekly, monthly? Do you take a list or just try to remember?
The first thing you need to learn is that you must stop buying based on impulse. Next, you will stop buying based on need. Yes, I said that. Now, if you need toilet paper, by all means, go buy some toilet paper! I do not expect anyone to be wiping their fannies with leaves from the backyard. What I mean is as your stockpile grows, these urgent needs will become less and less.
How is this going to help you save money? You are going to learn to buy using coupons at the rock bottom price, multiplying your savings tremendously.
Most stores have their prices on a 6-8 week sales cycle; twelve weeks at the most. When you shop at these low prices, you will buy enough to last until the next cycle.
This is NOT magic. There are many other people out there testifying that this does work. And, you will find it works for you too. Just focus on combining coupons with the lowest sales price and buying in quantities to build a stockpile.

Your assignment/s:
(1) Think about the last time you went to the store. Look at the receipt if you kept it. Highlight the items that were impulse buys or not necessities. Add up that amount and (if you dare), post it as a comment below along with any thoughts you have on this concept.
(2) What do you hope to accomplish through couponing? Are you saving for vacation? Wanting to be a stay-at-home parent? Needing to pay off some bills? If you feel comfortable, leave your goals in the comments.

A new attempt at using coupons to save money on groceries.
Goal: – to stop going to grocery store 2 or 3 times a week.
I am not completely new to coupons and the idea of stocking up so I am used to purchasing what is on sale and what regular stocked pantry items are low. How do I figure out the sale rotation at my stores I shop in? Military Commissary, Carrs and Fred Meyers mostly Walmart on occasion but they have low quality here and prices just as high in Alaska. What I hope to accomplish is having extra money in savings for security.
Mechelle ~ We will discuss how to set up your calendar soon. Hopefully, we can present you with some options that will help.
I added mine and came up with $23.72 of impulsive spending on my last receipt. Not too bad…i’ve definitely done worse.
My goal is just to save a lot of money with this plan. I would love to have the extra money to go towards other bills.
I had $21.68 of impulse spending. The total bill was $80.06 so the impulse purchases are a significant percentage of that total! I want to save more money on groceries to pay off other bills. Thanks Penny!
First time to try saving coupons but I am going to do my best. I need to save money to pay off bills. I have always tried to stockpile the things I knew I was going to need or used often.
I never have keep a supply until they would come on sale again.
Thanks for the workshop at FBTC.

My kids and I live with my mom, and for 30 something years, she has been the one to shop for groceries. A LOT of groceries, multiple times per week, etc…
I do shop, but primarily Walgreens, Rite Aid and Walmart, but am learning to save where I can and show my mom that is DOES pay to save and get her to start. I’m excited!
My goal for couponing is to be able to afford health insurance for our family. But, I love feeling like I’ve saved a ton of money–that’s an extra bonus!
I didn’t save my receipt (something I guess I need to start doing in my coupon book..which I haven’t named yet, but am working on!). However, I do know that I am bad about buying things I don’t necessarily need. My goal in doing this is to save money in order to pay off loads of unwanted bills!!!
Well, this isnt my first go-around with this! I went to Target Saturday, and only 1 impulse buy…it was a sandwich and was $2.99! You learn after a few trips, that impulse buys are BAD becuase that means you didnt search for a coupon and their prob was one out there, at least that is what I learned cause most of my impulse buys were and are groceries!
I am fairly new to couponing, I want to save money for my family. So that we can be more financially secure. (and have some fun while we are at it.)
And all of that is possible, Cathy! Couponing is a legally addictive hobby that pays for itself and more.
I want to spend less so we can start saving again and the cost of groceries is an area that seems to be increasing every month.
