You Made It! Congratulations!
If you missed yesterday, you can catch up HERE.
Knowing Your Stores: Winn Dixie, Food World/Brunos, Publix
Winn Dixie
Coupon Policy:
Winn Dixie allows 1 manufacturer’s (MQ) per item AND 1 Winn Dixie (W/D) Q per item. If you are purchasing a BOGO special, you can use two coupons. You must purchase two items to get the free item.
They also allow one $5/$30 or $10/$50 coupon per transaction. Some come in the mail when you apply for a store loyalty card or are printed out as a “catalina” after a transaction. When they will print is somewhat unpredictable. It is based on a points system related to how much you spend and what you purchase. Sometimes, you will notice a “double points” special in the sales ad.
Winn Dixie store loyalty cards also link to Upromise.
Brunos/Food World
Coupon Policy:
Brunos and Food World accept 1 manufacturer’s (MQ) per item. They will doubles coupons up to $0.50 on a daily basis.
Publix
Coupon Policy:
Publix has a very customer-friendly coupon policy. They accept 1 manufacturer’s (MQ) per item and 1 store Q per item, including store coupons from drugstores and grocery stores which they consider to be competition. They also accept one $x/$xx per transaction and this can also be from any of the competition. Unlike all other stores, you may only do one transaction using a $x/$xx coupon! They do not allow multiple transactions for the sake of using multiple $x/$xx coupons.
Their store coupons can be available in the newspaper inserts, online at their website, in their magazines (all free!) and their store publications (available behind the customer service desk).
Publix accepts Walgreens RRs as payment but only one per transaction.
The Publix store loyalty card links to Upromise.
NOTE: Unlike all the other stores, you are not required to purchase two items to qualify for BOGOs. One item will ring up for half price.
When Does Penny Go to Publix?
Since it is a nice trip over to Fairhope (our closest Publix store) I make sure I have a solid saving plan together before I go. I have MQs and Store Qs for most BOGOs as well as a $x/$xx from a competing store. I also have a significant number of RRs from Walgreens.
So, now that you made it through, how will you remember it all? I recommend purchasing the Coupon Workshop Workbook and using it as a reference guide. These are available in a bound format for $5 each or as a downloadale e-book for $3.
Purchase the Coupon Workshop Handbook ~ $5
Or, Choose the Coupon Workshop e-Book ~ $3
Visual Learner? Try the Coupon Workshop DVD ~ $20

Your Assignment/s:
(1) Grab the weekly sales ad for Brunos/Food World, Winn Dixie and Publix and look for some deals!
(2) Take the next week to catch up and experiement with your new skills because Advanced Penny Pinching begins on February 21st. Let me know if you have any questions, if you feel like it is not working for you, or if you just need some advice.

The tough thing about Publix is that not all have the same coupon policies, though. I live in Tuscaloosa, and of our four Publix stores, only one accepts Target coupons and none accept pharmacy coupons.
Thanks for sharing, Misty! That is very true that every store is different. That can also be said for Walmarts, Walgreens, and Rite Aids. The management is given a lot of ownership to their store’s coupon policies. I would love to broaden my information from the Mobile/Baldwin County stores and be able to give those of you who live at a distance a better understanding of what your stores offer.
So, if you live in a different location, please feel free to let me know your local policies so I can update the information here to share with others. Thanks!
I’m not quite sure I understand Winn-Dixie’s BOGO policy. If they have a BOGO sale can I use a BOGO coupon to get both items free?
Yes, Kari, you have it right. For instance, this week Cover Girl is on BOGO. On February 7th in the P&G Saver, there was a coupon for a BOGO on Cover Girl. You can get two Cover Girl items for free. I have not worked this deal but I did do the Premio Sausage BOGO with BOGO coupons before the Super Bowl and have a freezer full of Brats and Italian Sausage that I got for FREE! (Just pay sales tax.)
I just wanted to add a little bit of information that people may not know. I buy my groceries with food stamps. So far I’ve only used coupons at walmart and target, but whenever you use coupons at target, you have to pay tax on those coupons (not sure why there policy works this way), whereas if you use coupons at walmart you do not have to pay any extra. I’m sure every customer at Target has to pay tax on their coupons, I just happen to notice it since food stamps does not pay for it and I end up with a balance I have to pay with cash! (which was embarrassing when I forgot about it and didn’t have 7 cents!!)
Thanks for your insights, Hope. I think Walgreens does the same thing although I have heard that Winn Dixie does not.
Legally, they can charge tax on coupons. Why some stores choose not too… well, I just think that is their way of blessing their customers.
