Today, we begin (what I hope will be) a one-year commitment to read one book each month. These books will all be related to family, frugality, saving, cooking, or other topics related to this blog. If we get bored or stuck, we might mix it up with a little fiction. (I would love your suggestions and encourage you to place them in our BlogFrog community HERE or in the comments below.)
For the month of January, I selected Living with Less: The Upside of Downsizing Your Life by Mark Tabb and hope that you already have a copy. If not, it is not too late to join us! You can pick up the book at Amazon.com for a little over $10 or find it at your local library. I have inserted a link to Amazon.com for your convenience:
Today, we are going to start (as any good reader does) in the preface.
As I read the preface, I realized that this book was not exactly what I thought it was but I was also very challenged. For instance, on page X Mr. Tabb states:
I know real life is not measured by how much I own, but I assumed I could own as much as I wanted as long as I kept everything in its proper perspective.
Wow! I felt like I was being called to the principal’s office. There have been so many times in my life when I thought those same things. But, as Mr. Tabb says later and as my history shows, a pursuit of more just steals my focus and I go deeper and deeper into the trap of thinking I can justify my wants.
If you are reading along with me, I want to know what you found challenging in the preface. Please join the conversation by commenting below or by joining our BlogFrog community.
