First of all, I have to say that homeschool curriculum should be viewed as an investment into your child’s future. Yes, some curriculum can be expensive but I do not think that the price should stop you from using it.
If you cannot afford an entire line of curriculum, pick and choose your pieces and then supplement with the free resources available on the internet. Choose wisely and remember that your child’s learning styles, cognitive ability and interests should be your main determining factors when selecting curriculum.
Can I also add… last year we purchased all of our curriculum except for social studies and science because I thought, “I am a well-educated person. I have a college degree and part of a Master’s Degree in Childhood Education. I know what the children need to learn each year based on the scope and sequence published on the local school systems website. I can write this curriculum myself!”
Yeah… that was a very bad idea for me. I did it, but it was hard and took a ton of time. I just enjoy having the majority of the work done for me and knowing that I am not missing any important steps in a particular subject.

- Old Fashioned Education has a listing of free books and other resources which you can use for curriculum.
- Homeschool-Curriculum.org offers a list of links to various free worksheets which you can use to supplement your lessons.
- Homeschool Views links to a few free unit lessons, some free printable worksheets and other helpful items as you homeschool.
- FamilyEducation.com offers a ton of resources by age and grade including printables and quizzes.
