What is Pinterest?

In my personal opinion, Pinterest is the new “thing” and OH MY! What a highly addictive thing it can be.

Pinterest is a social media outlet where you can connect with other creative people… or people who just copy creative people, like I do. More than that, Pinterest is a fabulous way to take the information you see online that you want to remember and put it in a spot where you will not lose it and it will not plug up your computer’s memory.  Plus, you can categorize the information any way you like.

When you accept your invitation… yes, it is by invitation only but comment or contact me and I will invite you. As I was saying, when you respond to your invite, you are given a few default boards. The “boards” are your categories. You can add, delete or rename your boards to anything that pleases you.

How to Use Pinterest

I have a TON of boards where I pin information from recipes to homeschool ideas to holiday projects to sayings that make me laugh and more. A “pin” is the item you found on the internet that you want to remember. The easiest way to add a pin is to place the “pin” feature from Pinterest on your favorites bar. They will prompt you to do this when you set up your profile.

Here is how it works:

1) You find something that you like on the internet, like this post from Spell Outloud that I want to remember. While on that page, click the pin feature on your favorites bar.

2. A page will appear with all of the images from the post you are marking. As you scroll over the images, the pin button will appear. Click on the photo you want to serve as your reminder.

3. A box will then appear to let you choose the board (or category) where you want to save the information. You can also choose to tweet and/or share your pin if your Twitter and/or Facebook accounts are connected to your Pinterest account. Make sure to give your item a description that you can use to trigger your memory later.

How to Use Pinterest

4. The pin will now appear inside the board you selected on your Pinterest profile.

On Pinterest, you can follow others and see what they are pinning. If you want to remember that item, you can repin it to one of your boards. Sometimes, I will see something that I like but it doesn’t necessarily fit my boards. So, I will “like” it.

I really enjoy Pinterest and the way it allows me to clean out my inbox from all these daily email digests I have been collecting from my favorite blogs. It has also helped me make our school time more fun because some of the ideas are amazing.

Again, if you would like an invitation, just ask. If you are already on Pinterest, you can find me at MeetPenny.
