Since my confession, I have been consumed with thinking about where I stepped off track and what I needed to do to get our frugal life back together. This is what I came up with:
- Evaluate what it truly necessary.
- Eliminate unnecessary expenses. (We will be cancelling Sirius and Netflix.)
- Pay bills first.
- Remove cash from the bank to pay for gasoline and groceries. (Bill will be filling up the vehicles so I do not have to hustle four childrenĀ out of carseats to pay for gas.)
- Shop with a list and stick to it.
- Have freezer meals ready for “fast-food” nights.
I also plan to read Living with Less: The Upside of Downsizing Your Life by Mark Tabb again.

I think it is a wonderful plan and I’m going to be right there with you!!
Wonderful, Katherine! Let’s keep one another accountable.
While I’ve not read the book you mentioned, we’ve found great freedom by following Dave Ramsey’s principles. The cash budget isn’t always easy (and yes, some months I fail to make it to the bank and we end up using the debit card), but it is so worth it in the end. Which reminds me that it’s that time of the month to start working on September’s budget.
