This month, as part of the Healthy Family Project, Penny comes clean. TheĀ focus is on organizing and cleaning our home for a reason.
Are you ready for this?
Prepare yourself…
Remember, I warned you…

This is the corner of our master bedroom.
With confession comes accountability, so I wanted to show you my ugliest spot with the promise that by the end of the month, I will post another picture of the difference some serious cleaning and organizing can make.
My plan for the month includes:
- Deep clean the entire house
- Convert our files to digital format
- Remove all the keepsakes from under our bed and sort, trash, photograph
- Purge for a yard sale on March 23rd
All along the way, I am going to share my recipes for homemade cleaners with you.
I’m tired already.
Want to take this month’s challenge?
Post a picture of your ugliest spot to our Facebook wall and then come back before the end of the month to show us the new and improved look. Remember, with confession comes accountability!
Are you in?

Thanks for sharing that, Penny! I have wanted to get my home in better shape, too, but it’s so hard! I homeschool 3 kids, and by the time we finish up homeschooling (and I finish laundry, lunch and supper prep, etc.), it’s time for rest (we all rest from about 3-4 every afternoon). Once rest time is over, I have SO much trouble getting motivated to clean or organize anything. I’m more of a morning person, but the whole morning is of course taken up with teaching my kids. I keep making organization goals but I never seem to stick to them . . . any advice?
Just a thought, Esther, but if you are at your best in the morning for projects, why not do that and then do your schooling with your children a little later in the day? I don’t know what your state requires for homeschooling but we don’t usually even THINK about doing school until about 12:30 or 1:00 in the afternoon. My daughter learns better in the afternoon so that’s how we roll. Cut yourself some slack would be my best advice. Your kids might think it’s great too if they like a little extra sleep in the morning
Oh my goodness you are brave posting that but I want to say a huge THANK YOU!!!
Too often blogs and websites show a perfect picture of what their home life is. I get that some people are naturally gifted to have x amount of homeschooled kids and live in a picture perfect home.
Unfortunately, I am certainly not one of those and I am not even brave enough to blog about my life. So, the mother guilt creeps in… ‘if they can do homeschool, have a beautiful home and have time to blog then I should be able to…..’ Well you get what I mean? Sometimes looking for inspiration on the net to get through my muddle of a homeschool day and try to keep house works the opposite for me.
How refreshing to see your honesty and encouragement for others in the thick of ‘real life’. You are an inspiration! Whilst I want to take up this challenge I shudder at the thought of posting my ugliest spot on facebook. Anxiety is mounting just thinking of doing that
Best wishes and thanks again xx
Wow. So glad you posted that picture. I’m grateful to find out that I’m not the only one! All of my friends seem to have immaculate, clutter- free houses. Or maybe that’s just all I see. Whatever the case, I have a serious problem with this, and am “working” on it.
Definitely with you on the ugly spot, only in my case it is spots! And they migrate. And multiply! My biggest offender would have to be my bedroom (we chose one of the smaller bedrooms so that our two boys could share the master) and the piles of homeschool clutter. Sigh. I go through the piles every couple of weeks and it stays clean for about a day.
How do you cope with the discouragement and seeming futility that comes from cleaning a home that people actually LIVE in?
I also appreciate you posting your pic. My entire home is disorganized and I feel so much guilt over it. I make attempts to change and just cannot seem to stick with a schedule. I want my family to feel blessed and relaxed in our home. I would love to have company along the way taking on this challenge!
