here are moments when I feel sorry for myself. At those times, my funk can grow easily. I look at what we have compared to those around us and I sink lower into a selfish pit of despair. When I see people with their new cars and smart phones, my feet slip and I fall further. When I look at the real estate section of the newspaper and the lovely dream homes for sale, I wallow in the misery of my own making.
In reality, I know I am blessed, but in the dark recesses of my brain where my self-centered nemesis abides, I feel poor.
But how poor am I?
Compared to the single mom working two jobs.
Compared to the homeless guy in line at the soup kitchen.
Compared to the elderly lady who hangs quilts over the holes in her walls.
Compared to the mother clutching her starving child in her arms.
Compared to the teenager who has nowhere to call home.
Compared to the father with mouths to feed, bills to pay and no job to provide an income.
