Homeschooling a child with Autism can be challenging. Providing the occupational therapy yourself can be frustrating. I do both and often feel like I am going to pull my hair out.
Products for homeschooling a child with Autism
You can combine therapy and school work with these awesome products.
Learning Resources LER6900 Time Tracker Programmable Electronic Timer~ School would take forever without this. It really helps teach Lira time management.
SLINKY ORIGINAL NEON~ Wonderful object to redirect those flapping hands. It also builds hand-eye coordination and muscle tone in her hands.
Melissa & Doug Abby & Emma Deluxe Magnetic Dress-Up~ Lira had a self help delay and did not dress herself for a while. Magnetic dolls helped me teach her about clothing and what to put on for appropriate weather. Now, we use them to have conversations.
Melissa & Doug Deluxe Fuzzy Make – Your – Own Monster Puppet~ Without a sense of humor, life can be quite dull. The monster puppet helps Lira be silly as well as giving her different textures to experience and fine motor development when she makes the puppet’s mouth move.
Tangle Therapy by Tangle~ Lira does a lot of self stimulating behaviors with her hands (like clapping in her hair) and needs to build muscle tone in her hands. I think this is an excellent tool to give her something to redirect those stimming behaviors.
Here is my wishlist of things that I want to add to our homeschool closet:
Tomy Gearation~ Arranging and watching these gears would be an excellent source of visual stimulation while tapping into that superior IQ.
Perplexus Maze Game by PlaSmart, Inc.~ This is another toy that will be great for visual stimulation while building hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
Kore Active Wobble Chair – All of my children are wiggle worms. I think this chair would help redirect that motion while helping them to focus on their school work.
