Advent helps to showcase the hope of the world from the highest heaven and our Lord God. Anticipating the coming of Jesus and talking about Advent with candles of the Advent wreath can bring great joy to your home.

Use this time to talk about the true light of the world, Jesus. He truly is our god of hope that gives us all steadfast love, and we’re all god’s people, full of love and grace. Let the light shine in your house this holiday season, and talk about our Gracious God.

No matter if this is the first time that you’re celebrating this way, or it’s a tradition in your house, have fun with the process and take this time to be together.

What are the Advent Sundays in 2022?

The Sundays of Advent, leading up to Christmas Eve, start on Sunday, November 27th.

What is the meaning of the first Sunday of Advent, second Sunday of Advent, third Sunday of Advent, and fourth Sunday of Advent?

The first candle of Advent is about the coming of Christ and his forgiveness. The second focuses on everything leading up to the birth of Jesus. The third is about Mother Mary and Jesus and the happiness of his birth, and the final week of advent is about remembering to celebrate the birth of baby Jesus.

What do the candles of Advent mean?

  • The first candle of Advent is the candle of hope.
  • The second candle of Advent is the candle of love.
  • The third candle of Advent is the candle of joy.
  • The fourth candle of Advent (the final candle) is the candle of peace.

Some will add a fifth candle, the white Christ candle, that is lit on Christmas Day (and sometimes Christmas Eve) to celebrate Christ’s birth. This isn’t done in every home, so it can be optional.

How often do you light Advent candles?

The lighting of Advent candles is done every week on Sunday. You’ll start with a single new candle the first week and then add another candle as each week passes.

What are the colors of the Advent Candles?

Week one, two, and week four is a purple candle. The third week is a pink candle, and if you add the white candle to celebrate the birth of Jesus, that is added as the fifth candle on the final day.
