1st Grade Homeschool Curriculum

Share & Help Me Grow

I felt like I was warped through time as I made selections for 1st grade homeschool curriculum. Our family has changed a lot since I taught Lira on a first grade level and my knowledge about where to find homeschool curriculum has changed dramatically too.

Great 1st grade homeschool curriculum recommendations.

Ruble will be a 1st grader. I am both happy and sad at the same time. I think that emotion can only be experienced through motherhood.

Handwriting

Oddly enough, Ruble has the best handwriting of all my children, but I will still have him use the copywork pages from Write Through the Bible as well as pages I can make myself using the StartWrite software.

Reading

Since All About Reading worked so well with Franc, I have already been using it with Ruble and he loves it.

Spelling

I will be using recommended spelling lists from Spelling City and teach Ruble how to use a dictionary to look up the words.

History

For the entire family, we will be combining Drive Thru History with additional reading and their free discussion guides.

Drive Thru History: American History Series, All Episodes 1-12 in Set, is a DVD-based curriculum that we can enjoy together as a family.

We will supplement the Drive Thru History studies with hands-on projects and living books. (I am not a Charlotte Mason homeschooler but on some days, I get close.)

Science

Our science studies at home will be through Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Botany from the Young Explorer Series.

6th grade science curriculum

In addition to creating my own powerpoint lessons, we will use Apologia Exploring Creation With Botany Lapbook Package (Lessons 1-13) from Knowledge Box Central to create lap books instead of the Exploring Creation with Botany Junior Notebooking Journal… maybe. I really love the notebooking journals but I am not sure if the Junior version would be better for Lira than the regular Exploring Creation with Botany Notebooking Journal.

>>SEE the Apologia Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology Unit Study Page for another great science curriculum recommendation.<<

Math

Ruble is excited to use iXL for math. I will supplement his work with free worksheets from Education.com.

About Tabitha

Hi! I'm Tabitha! But, I bet you expected someone named "Penny." Long story made short, Penny is the coupon binder I started in 2010 when we were totally broke... as in BANKRUPT. Now, as a mom of five, I make 6-figures a year working at home and share ways to help you move from penny to profit while you raise a family with sense on cents.

We are using Write Through The Bible for the first time this year. I absolutely love All About Reading it did wonders for my daughter. I will have to check out Drive Through History, as I have never heard of it. We also really like Apologia. We are still working through the Astronomy.
