Not sure how I skipped over posting this last week. So sorry! I have so much stuff that I want to share with you and I get forgetful. Don’t be afraid to put up a flare on the Facebook wall… “Hey You! Where’s the workboxes?”
I love playing games with the kids and Scrabble Slam is a great one. We very rarely play by the rules because we are focused on helping each other make words. This is a wonderful game for teaching word families.
Since Lira is very good with her math but very whiny when she feels like it is too much, I started cutting apart her worksheets and gluing them to a large sheet on construction paper. This way, I pick how much work she does and it gives her something a little different to look at.
You can’t see it in this picture but I also put a love note across the bottom of the page.
Lira decided by herself that she wanted to use the finger paint bag to write some spelling words. I thought it was a great idea!
Another way she practiced her spelling words this week was with Scrabble tiles. Yes, she could probably just write them but then I would have to listen to the complaining. This way, she can skip the worksheet and have some hands on fun. However, I do think writing is important and that is why the day after this activity, I had her write a sentence for each word. Surprise! She didn’t even blink or cry!
Every once in a while, she wants to do something that she saw her brothers doing. Since her emotional age is about that of a five or six year old, I don’t try to dissuade her. So, she made an “All About Me” booklet.
She loves making books. Creates her own from scratch frequently. This was just her type of learning fun!
What is your 2nd Grader doing this week?
