When I shared my love for Elizabeth Pantley’s book, The No Cry Sleep Solution, and how it helped us teach our children to sleep through the night, I had no idea that she might see my review. A couple of days after the post was published, I received a lovely email… from Elizabeth Pantley.
You guys, I almost died. Seriously.
Here is the woman who brought sleep back to our home with one book, not once… but FOUR times. I am very passionate about sleep and I. Love. Her. So, when I got this email, I had to pick myself up off the floor.
She gave me a fabulous opportunity to read her newest book, The No-Cry Picky Eater Solution: Gentle Ways to Encourage Your Child to Eat and Eat Healthy, and I immediately thought about the conversations I have had with some of you. I know this is a huge struggle for many families and I grabbed the opportunity to see what help Elizabeth could offer us.
As with all of her books, The No-Cry Picky Eater Solution, offers practical tips and tricks for getting your child to eat a healthy, balanced diet. She doesn’t give you a rigid set of rules to follow. Instead, you are offered suggestions to try. If something doesn’t help you encourage your child to eat or taste new things, try something else.
A couple of the suggestions I put into practice immediately were to have a “two-bite rule” and to let the children fix their own plates. Previously, we always prepared the children’s food and then called them to the table. By putting the children in control of what is on their plates, we have seen fewer arguments.
The one thing that stuck with me the most was to think about your child’s eating habits over the course of the week. Don’t stress so much over meal to meal or even on a single day. Think more in terms of what they are getting within several days and strive for balanced nutrition that way.
Wow. I felt like a boulder was lifted from my shoulders.
I think you will find this book offers some new suggestions along with great reminders for having your child eat a well-balanced diet. The recipes at the end of the book will prepare you with the tools you need to get started right away, transitioning into more nutritious and less stressful meal times.
