When it is time for lunch, does your child open the lunch box with anticipation or dread? Are you stuck in a lunch box rut? Consider these easy school lunch ideas placed on a two week rotation to keep your children happy (and healthy).
My children would be perfectly happy eating peanut butter (no jelly) sandwiches every. single. day. I have no idea why they are so fixated on peanut butter! But with them attending school, I did not want the teachers to think that my children were suffering by having to eat the same thing each day. My imagination was overrun by potential conversations the teachers would have about my kids.
“I smell peanut butter. Oh wait… that just one of Penny’s kids coming down the hall.”
“That poor child. Always a peanut butter sandwich. His mother must really suffer from lack of creativity.”
“Well, at least they are getting a healthy dose of Vitamin E… even if the smell of peanut butter oozes from their pores.”
I needed lunch box ideas that would give my children a variety of nutrients from foods they would actually eat. Oh, my picky eaters!
2 Weeks of School Lunch Ideas
I started by making a list of the foods my children enjoy and then twisted them into different combinations so that they never had the same exact thing twice during a 2 week rotation. Yes, 2 weeks. Why stretch it out and try to come up with 30 days of lunch box ideas when let’s be honest… my child cannot even remember what he had for dinner last night! Why stress? 2 weeks of school lunch ideas are plenty.
Besides, when the season changes, I can switch out grapes for mandarin oranges or substitute leftover quesadillas or pulled pork for ham or turkey.
