It is so easy to pull a worksheet out of a book and plop it in front of Lira. Oh my! I even love the sound those little perferations makes as they rip. It’s a soothing rhythm to my soul on a hectic morning.
However… giving Lira worksheets over and over again breeds discontentment and rebellion. It doesn’t take many worksheets before she gives me that defiant stance and refuses to cooperate. So, I have to keep up with creative ways to review subjects like spelling.
Magnetic letters are always a fun (and easy) option but it is easy to make that a part of the routine.
Recently, I wanted something different and when I found a pack of sentence strips from the Dollar Tree in a drawer, I had one of those moments where I swear I could hear angels singing.
On the first day, Lira wrote her spelling words on the sentence strips. There was absolutely no resistance. I was stunned. She was, after all, writing!
The next day, she arranged the words into groups based on their structures and sounds. As she worked, I had her reading the words and spelling them. It was fabulous!
