This week, we spent a lot of time working out a plan for the Where in the World Postcard Exchange.
I have put some thought into how I can use the postcards to maximize Lira’s education. I don’t want to take the fun out of it but I also don’t want to waste this great opportunity.
Here is what we are doing:
- As the postcards come in, locate the state on the map and mark it.
- Review the information we have learned about the state.
- If we have yet to study the state, use our atlas to look up some interesting facts about that state.
- For any international cards, we will locate those on our globe and look up information on that country using the internet.
- List ways on an index card that each family is like us or make notes about how their location is similar to our’s.
- Keep the postcards (and index cards) in a special album.
What are you doing with your 1st through 6th grader this week? Please link up!
I love these ideas! I think J would love this–he loves to make mail for others, and he loves a map. I am going to have to think about this for after I get my bearings under me in my new job.
By the way, your site is beautiful. 😉
