Goals are important to us. We believe in dreaming big dreams and want to communicate that to our family. So, once a year, Bill and I get together and think about what God wants for our family.
How can you set goals for your family?
1) Be on the same page with your spouse.
You cannot lead your children in one direction while your spouse is headed off the other way. A lack of cohesiveness just confuses everyone. So, make sure that the lines of communication are open and that you both have the same general plan for your family.
2) Make the goals attainable.
Deciding that your family will go on a Disney vacation without the financial resources available would be a disappointment when the plan fails. Be realistic when you set your goals.
3) Involve the entire family.
While I believe you and your spouse should already have a list of goals prepared, if your children are old enough, a family meeting is a great way to get feedback from the entire family. If your children have some ownership over the goals, they will experience the same excitement that you do when they see those goals attained.
