A Nativity Envelope Craft for Role Play

Share & Help Me Grow

free homeschool Christmas unit study

I loved the envelope craft found in a compilation post on Catholic Icing of great nativity craft ideas (which has since been removed because the reportedly-original blog did not appreciate having their ideas shared in the manner represented) but I wanted our craft to be something with which the children could play. So, I changed the complete idea to make it a toy.

I outlined the envelope so that the children would know what to color. Then, cut construction paper for the hay and used white foam to make a body shape. The face was made from pick felt and the swaddling cloth is white felt.

The children colored the envelope like a stable and then stuffed it with “hay.” For Lira, I cut out a triangle from the stable… because it had to be JUST. LIKE. THAT. (Don’t you just love Autism. Ha, ha.)

They glued the face on the baby and then wrapped it with the white felt. The final touch was a star on top of the stable.

Now, they have a craft they can use for role playing and they love it.

NOTE: I was notified that a similar craft is available at Danielle’s place if you prefer to print out a template and then cut and paste instead of making a model for role play. A membership fee is required for the template, but there are many other Christmas crafts available. Some great ideas.

About Tabitha

Hi! I'm Tabitha! But, I bet you expected someone named "Penny." Long story made short, Penny is the coupon binder I started in 2010 when we were totally broke... as in BANKRUPT. Now, as a mom of five, I make 6-figures a year working at home and share ways to help you move from penny to profit while you raise a family with sense on cents.
