I speculated that frozen foods companies used pink slime, also know as “lean finely textured beef (LFTB),” “boneless lean beef trimmings (BLBT),” and “finely textured beef (FTB).” While I didn’t really want to know, I asked Stouffers and this was the reply:
Dear Ms. Philen,
Thank you for taking the time to contact us about STOUFFER’S. We welcome questions and comments from loyal consumers such as yourself and appreciate this opportunity to assist you.
You are referring to lean beef trimming that have been treated with ammonium hydroxide. We don’t use that ingredient. In our meals and sandwiches we make here at Nestle Prepared Foods, we use beef trimmings called “finely textured beef” – – which is NOT treated with ammonia. We cook the beef following very specific food safety standards.
At Nestle, we are dedicated to you and your family throughout every phase of your lives. Your feedback is valuable to us, as it helps us to improve our products ans services.
We appreciate your interest in our products and hope you will visit our website often for the latest information on our products and promotions.
Sincerely,
