Once you have your homeschool calendar set up for the year, you are ready to start organizing your lesson plans but first, take some time to pray. I don’t mean a quickie just to get you through it. Make sure that you are focused on what God wants for your child this year and not necessarily any pre-determined agendas you have in mind.

For the most part, the homeschool curriculum we use gives me a very clear-cut plan that I can apply to my lesson plans. All I have to do is fill in the form so that I have it ready if I have to provide it to my homeschool covering when I turn in grades at the end of the quarter. However, not all curriculum gives such a decisive pattern to follow. For instance, our science curriculum (Apologia’s Exploring Creation With Botany
Speaking of science, there are some subjects we do not cover on a daily basis. For our family, we like to study Social Studies (or History/Geography) on Monday and Tuesday. We study science on Wednesday and Thursday. Since my children are still young, I can do this and still cover everything they need to learn within the year. As they grow, I will have to expand the amount of time we spend on those subjects.
One thing to remember: Lesson plans are not written in stone. I actually will keep my plans on the computer until after the week has passed. Then, I will print them and add the pages to my records folder. The fabulous thing about homeschooling your child is that you can personalize the lessons each day to fit his individual needs. If you need to move faster or slower in a particular area, you can tweak your lesson plans accordingly.
