As the temperatures plunge this week in the deep south, I am reminded that not everyone has a warm coat to wear. As a matter of fact, some people in my community have very little to protect them from the harsh winter wind.
For the past seven years, Burlington has offered the unique opportunity to visit their stores and donate a gently-used coat through the Warm Coast and Warm Hearts Drive.
The feeling of giving something that I don’t need anymore to someone who desperately needs it is… “Amazing” doesn’t do the emotion justice.

Since the original coat drive at Burlington seven years ago, over one million coats have been donated.
The coats you give at your local Burlington stay within your community with charities picking up the coats frequently throughout the Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Drive.

Be rewarded for your coat donation
As if the feeling of helping another person is not enough, you will receive a coupon for 10% off your entire Burlington purchase when you donate a coat by January 19, 2015.
Also, capture the moment with a picture and share it on Twitter or Instagram, mentioning why you are donating using #CoatNotes, and your picture could appear on Good Morning America.
Why donate a coat?
Our family has always wanted to be givers but thought donations had to be monetary to be appreciated. Then we passed through a decade of extreme financial stress where we were forced to rely on the generosity of others in order to meet our basic needs. We came to realize that donations come in all shapes and sizes.
With more than 45 million Americans living in poverty and temperatures dipping below freezing, the need for warmth is great and coats are a must!
And if you are in a position, once you donate your coat you can use your 10% off coupon to get a new one.
It had been a very long time since I shopped in Burlington. My family and I were stunned by the low prices on name brands.
Everyone was able to find something that they needed (or wanted), even my husband who came home with an amazing $400 designer coat for just $80!
