If you have never read the work of Ann Voskamp, let me be the first to invite you to get to know her, an artist of an author who can weave words of education and encouragement into an almost poetic phrase.
If you are familiar with Ann, then allow me to share with you the beauty of her seasonal works, Unwrapping the Greatest Gift: A Family Celebration of Christmas, The Greatest Gift: Unwrapping the Full Love Story of Christmas, and the corresponding DVD study.
I confess that I often find myself caught up in the push to get our family through the list of events and Advent activities so that we can have Christmas day and then box everything away for another year.

I miss an HUGE opportunity to capture the essence of the season during the 25 days leading up to Christmas.
If you don’t come to Christmas through Christ’s family tree and you come into the Christmas story just at the Christmas tree – this is hard, to understand the meaning of His coming.
~Ann Voskamp
With Ann Voscamp’s The Greatest Gift: Unwrapping the Full Love Story of Christmas, I can be sure to have my heart properly prepare for Christmas, but I do not have to journey through this 25-day study alone. I can take friends with me using the corresponding DVD study or guide my family through Unwrapping the Greatest Gift: A Family Celebration of Christmas.
This book is beautiful. Just turning the pages full of vibrant illustrations causes a feeling of reverence to overcome my heart.

Each day contains a devotion for the entire family.
The Greatest Gift: Unwrapping the Full Love Story of Christmas becomes somewhat interactive as it contains a code to give you access to free printable Jesse Tree ornaments and each day’s devotion shares a matching ornament that you can place on your Jesse Tree.

When I placed our Simple DIY Jesse Tree on the wall, my children immediately become excited about starting a new Christmas tradition and I appreciated that they would be learning more about our faith, focusing on the reason why our family celebrates Christmas more than the hustle and bustle that normally propels us towards Christmas day.
If you would like to join our family on this Advent journey, you can purchase Unwrapping the Greatest Gift: A Family Celebration of Christmas, The Greatest Gift: Unwrapping the Full Love Story of Christmas, and the corresponding DVD study at Amazon or by visiting Tyndale House.
And don’t miss these lovely Jesse Tree ornaments from Christian Book Distributors.

We make a Jesse Tree and we also have a small Christmas tree that was given to my children by their great grandmother. We put an ornament on it every day until Christmas.

We’ve done paper chains with activities in the past. I’m not sure what we’ll do this year.
