This is a review from the older version of this blog but I thought I would repost it since I have a couple of menus from the new Master Your Metabolism Cookbook.
Honestly, I never really thought a lot about what was in my food until my daughter was diagnosed with autism (PDD-NOS). Suddenly, I started paying attention to her diet, and then I came across the new book by Jillian Michaels from The Biggest Loser, Master Your Metabolism. At first glance, you think this is a diet book but it is actually a dialogue on the hormone-disruptors placed in our foods through pesticides and processing. Her main theory is this: “If it doesn’t have a mother and did not grow, don’t eat it!”
For me, it is a really wake-up call and I highly recommend this book.
What does it mean to “eat clean”? EatingCleanWorks.com says, “In a nutshell, eating clean is the practice of eating whole, natural foods such as fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and complex carbohydrates. It also means staying away from the junk that typically makes up the Standard American Diet (S.A.D) These types of food include man-made sugar, bad fats (hydrogenated, trans-fat), preservatives, white bread, and any other ingredients that are unnecessary. An easy way to remember if a food is clean is: if man made it, don’t eat it.”
But, don’t be overwhelmed! There are tons of resources available for eating clean and it is so much easier than you think. First of all, you have the menus here which present healthy meals you can choose to make “clean” or purchase processed convenience foods to supplement. Then, you can check out your local library for more resources. And, if you have never heard of it, there is even a magazine, Clean Eating.
I am not a crazy health nut but I do want to encourage you to think about what you are putting into your body that God never intended to be there. Let’s keep our families healthy!
