Even though I always wanted a big, beautiful headboard for our master bedroom, I never wanted to flip the bill for something that would just make our bedroom look pretty and not really have any other purpose. When we moved into our home, I started looking for solutions to my decorating dilemma and realized that we already had everything I needed to make, or rather “pretend to have,” a headboard on our bed.
On each side of the bed, we placed bookshelves which created a recessed area. With the bed pushed flat against the wall, we stacked shams and pillows to create the illusion of a backrest. Then, we added a large mirror as a focal point and decorated the area around the mirror with accessories in the same color to give it a continuous feel.
Pinterest is full of other creative solutions and if we ever move, I might just go with one of these ideas:
Fill a curtain with your favorite poetry or the words from old love letters (Better Homes & Gardens)
Use electricians tape to create a gorgeous headboard right on your wall (Instead of Sheep)
Rescue old doors from the flea market or scrap lot (Dreamy Whites)

VERY beautiful! I would feel so ‘royal’ in a bedroom like that. So glad you shared!

Aww… thanks. I wish it was always as neat as it is in the picture but it is a nice retreat at the end of the day… just because it is quiet. 🙂
