This week, we are planning vacation holidays for families and we are starting it off with a list of family adventures. For great places to travel this summer, consider these fabulous cities:
US travel destinations for families
Some of these cities are tucked away in the United States while others are popular places to vacation. However, I have been to visit them all and can certify them as fabulous destinations for family vacations.
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS
Granted, I did not take my children with me on any of my trips to Chicago but I found myself thinking, “I wish the kids were here!” Bill and I were like big kids at the Navy Pier and walking through Grant Park, but as we sat in the historic Ford Center for the Performing Arts to see Wicked, I found myself dreaming of bring the children for a visit to this fabulous city.
One day in the future, I hope to take our children to Chicago and plan to delight in the reactions on their faces as we visit The Field Museum and they see Sue, the most complete T-Rex ever found. She was amazing!
GULF SHORES, ALABAMA
One of the most family-friendly beaches in the world, my family and I spend a lot of time in Gulf Shores. Actually, we spend at least one week out of every year in Gulf Shores. With a variety of free and cheap activities in the surrounding area, a beach vacation in Gulf Shores is very budget-friendly.
WASHINGTON, D.C.
As a homeschooling family, a trip to the capital of the United States is an amazing travel destination since it is rich in history and provides a great deal of free activities.
GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA
This is definitely one of the cities that probably would not immediately jump to mind when you are looking for a place to spend a family holiday, but Greenville hosts a beautiful zoo, enormous playground, imaginative scavenger hunt, and much more. On our next trip to Greenville, we plan to visit the Children’s Museum and I think I might be more excited than the kids.
ATLANTA, GEORGIA
When staying in Atlanta, we aim to be in close proximity to the Centennial Olympic Park because it is a prime location for being within walking distance of so many fabulous family adventures. Make sure you plan your trip to include a free viewing of the Fountain of Rings and a trip to the Georgia Aquarium.
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA
A trip to New Orleans during Mardi Gras is not a family experience. (A family-friendly Mardi Gras can be found in Mobile, Alabama.) However, during the Spring, Summer, and Fall, you can find an abundance of activities your family will love like the Audubon Nature Institute and all that it provides.
ORLANDO, FLORIDA
Everyone knows the obvious tourist attraction in Orlando, but there is so much more beyond Walt Disney World that you could spend several weeks there and never see the same thing twice.
