There is nothing I would like better for Valentine’s Day than a night alone with my husband in a dark, candlelit restaurant with good food and great music. However, those romantic restaurants can be expensive, but with a little preparation, we can have an equally romantic dinner and date night at home.
Romantic recipes for a date night at home
If you want a restaurant quality dish for your date night meal, I recommend using the Carrabba’s Italian Grill Cookbook: Recipes from Around Our Family Table cookbook. Carrabba’s in one of our favorite restaurants and the cookbook shares how to get that wonderful flavor in your own kitchen.
Not interested in Italian? I have loads of wonderful ideas on Pinterest.
Now, keep in mind that the trick to creating a great, romantic meal is not stressing out.
Tips to De-Stress Dinner
Here are some tips to help keep you in the mood while you prepare for your romantic dinner at home:
- Make sure you have all the ingredients you need the day before so there will not be any rushed trips to the store.
- Have a plan of what you are going to cook and when.
- Do as much prep work as possible to make the meal come together quickly and easily as possible.
- Listen to some romantic music while you cook.
- Be willing to call for takeout if things get out of hand… or burned.
My favorite tip for preparing a romantic dinner… for married couples only… dress as sexy as possible and cook together… with lots of “accidental” touching. Yeah, but not with the kids at home. (No wonder we have FOUR children, right?)

I LOVE this post! And Amen to the scantily clad cooking, There is nothing like cooking a candle lit dinner in high heels and silky nighty to remind you (and hubby) that there is a woman under those scroungy, kid stained house clothes all week long! LOL 🙂

No kidding! I’m sure my husband gets tired of my yoga pants and tshirts… not to mention the bare face and ponytail. LOL
