Neighborhood Potluck with Gluten-Free Party Menu and McCormick

Share & Help Me Grow

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of McCormick Gluten-Free Recipe Mix. The opinions and text are all mine.

My husband and I love hanging out with our neighbors. But, having friends over for dinner can be difficult when someone has food sensitivities like a gluten intolerance. However, I have found a way to make party planning easy. I can focus on preparing the main dish with McCormick Gluten-Free Recipe Mix and allow my guests to bring the side dishes and desserts.

gluten free spice blends

Here is the way I see it… If I provide the meat for the meal and ask my neighbors to bring the sides, I can guarantee that they will prepare a dish that fits the dietary needs of their unique family. The only problem remaining is, what kind of meat can I prepare that goes with everything?

Gluten-Free Party Menu

Since I need to avoid gluten, I avoid spice blends and gravy packets unless they are McCormick Gluten-Free Recipe Mixes. Made without gluten, MSG, or artificial flavors and colors, these spice blends contain the perfect amount of everything you need for flavorful food. Plus, you are saving time (just dump and go without extra dishes to wash) as well as money (costs nothing extra and no need to buy big bottles of various spices.)

By using McCormick Gluten-Free Chili, Taco, Turkey Gravy, and Brown Gravy Recipe Mixes, I can easily prepare a mouth-watering variety of main dishes for any get together:

  • Gluten-Free Meatballs in Brown Gravy – perfect for an appetizer! (below)
  • Chili-Rubbed Pork and Mango Salsa
  • Southwest Steak and Corn Kabobs
  • Turkey Gravy over turkey breast or chicken
  • Slow Cooker Southwestern Roast (below)

gluten-free brown gravy? YES PLEASE! Saucy!

Gluten-Free Meatballs and Brown Gravy

2 pounds ground chuck
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dried mustard
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon gluten-free soy sauce
1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
1 egg
1 pack McCormick Gluten-Free Brown Gravy Recipe Mix with water for mix

Party planning for gluten-free friends. Includes this yummy-looking recipe!

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a large baking sheet with foil and spray with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Mix together all ingredients but the brown gravy recipe mix. Form meatballs using a medium cookie scoop or your hands. They should be slightly larger than a golf ball. Space the meatballs apart slightly on the baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
  4. Remove from baking sheet and place in a pot or slow cooker.
  5. Prepare the McCormick Gluten-Free Brown Gravy Recipe Mix according to package directions. Pour over the meatballs and keep warm until ready to serve.

I have to stop and say that the ONE thing that bothered me the most about choosing a gluten-free lifestyle was losing the gravy in my mashed potatoes. Now, gravy is back in my life. I am thrilled and ready to party!

slow cooker southwestern beef roast - with a gluten-free spice blend!

Slow Cooker Southwestern Roast

1 tablespoon olive oil
4 to 5 pound beef chuck roast
1 pack McCormick Gluten-Free Taco Recipe Mix
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar

taco-rubbed roast beef? You could shred it for tacos or slice for fajitas!

  1. Pour olive oil in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  2. Coat all side of the beef roast with McCormick Gluten-Free Taco Recipe Mix and place on top of olive oil. Drizzle with red wine vinegar.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.
  4. Slice and serve.

Fabulous plan for a gluten-free get together. Includes gluten-free recipes like this one for the slow cooker and family-friendly party game ideas.

But never let your guests eat and run home… unless it is to home BASE. Play some fun, family-friendly games.

I am waiting for the weather to cool off so I can have my neighbors bring their favorite lawn game over for family sports. Of course, there are so many kid-friendly yard games available, I will plan a few of my own. No need to make a huge investment. Yard game equipment can easily be found at yard sales and many do not require store-bought equipment at all.

Great tips for planning a neighborhood party. Includes a gluten-free menu and family friendly yard game ideas.

With options available for everyone, I can be sure to please even the pickiest eater! Plus, by offering choices, I have a match for anything my neighbor will bring over and can rest easily knowing that everyone will find something to eat (and love!) Think about it… what finicky child doesn’t love a fun meatball?
