You might think I have it all together but looks can be deceiving, and I have proof. Anytime our family went of a trip, I would completely lose my mind. Seriously. My husband would need to take the children and leave the house just so I could figure out how to pack a suitcase.
I know that packing a suitcase for kids should not be difficult, but somewhere among the piles of clothes and trying to figure out outfits for four kids to wear in a week, my stress level would skyrocket and I became this crazy woman who could not count panties and socks.
One afternoon, as I sat crying surrounded by laundry baskets and suitcases, I glanced over at a box of homeschool supplies where a box of gallon-sized storage bags was peeking out at me. An idea blew up in my brain that has forever changed the way I pack suitcases for my kids.
Tips for Packing a Suitcase for Kids
I pulled out one storage bag for each child and each day as well as a bag for each child’s extra socks and undies, pajamas, and hair accessories (for the girls). Grabbing a permanent marker, I wrote names and days of the week on the bags. Finally, I placed an outfit (including socks and bows) in each bag and chunked (yes, that is the technical term) the bags into the suitcase.
Insert huge sigh of relief. Instead of taking days to pack, I was done in less than one hour. ONE HOUR.
And, the best part… the kids know exactly what to wear on which day and there is no problem trying to match shirts to shorts when we are away from home. I love it!
Oh, and to keep from buying plastic bags for each trip, we save the bags and store them with the suitcases.
Next time you get ready to leave home on a family trip, kiss stress goodbye and pack for the kids with ease.
