When I get busy, the last thing I think of is hydration. Because staying hydrated is important, I had to find simple ways to drink more water – like enhancing the flavor – without putting a lot of effort into my plan.
When I don’t drink enough water, the skin on my hands will get so dry it will crack and bleed. My lips become chapped. I will develop a headache and can become dizzy. My thoughts get muddled. And, of course, I’m thirsty.
I understand that hydration is important. We need water to live. Right? Specifically, the baseline is pretty high:
- Men should drink about 3 liters (about 13 cups) of total fluids a day.
- Women should drink about 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total fluids a day.

When you are active, the weather is hot, the humidity is low, or any other factors come to play, you need even more water to stay hydrated.
Drink More Water and Stay Hydrated
My problem is taking the time to stop what I am doing to get something to drink. Since I should drink at least 9 cups of water a day, I created very specific ways to insert water in my routine:
1. Track the amount of water you drink.
Every time I drink a glass of water, I write it down. I used to track my water by marking the side of a red disposable cup with a permanent marker… until I went to a party where we were drinking out of red disposable cups and I began to twitch.
If you are more of a techie person, you can set reminders on your phone or use a water-tracking app.
2. Enhance the flavor of your water.
If you grow tired of drinking water or do not like the taste, change it! Use Dasani Drops as a flavor enhancer in your water. With zero calories, you can add a burst of originality to your water with just a squeeze.
With each bottle providing 32 servings, Dasani Drops are an economical solution to improving the taste of your water. Plus, with four flavors, you can mix up a different favorite in each bottle and never be bored again.
I was able to find Dasani Drops in my local super center near the other water enhancers and flavored drink mixes.
3. Make drinking water a habit.
One daily habit that helps me drink more water is chugging a full glass before I eat or drink anything else. Since I need medication first thing in the morning, I use that as my trigger for remembering to guzzle down a glass of water before I reach for coffee.
If drinking water first thing in the morning turns your tummy, you could find other places to set mental triggers and make drinking water a part of your routine.
4. Always have a glass of water handy.
If I start to sit down at the table, desk or sofa without a glass of water within arm’s reach, I redirect my feet to the kitchen.
One word of warning… if you are keeping water on your desk, use bottled Dasani or a lidded cup.
Water and electronics do not mix well and accidents happen.
5. Take water on the go.
Each time you leave the house, grab water to go with you. Challenge yourself to have the water finished before you reach your destination or take a drink at each red traffic light.
Since Dasani Drops are packaged in squeezable 1.9 fluid ounce bottles with a flip-top cap, they are a perfect addition to your purse essentials and ready for use where ever you go.
6. Drink a glass of water before every meal.
When I am really hungry, I just want to eat and often forget to drink. By gulping down a glass of water before each meal, I am not only hydrating myself but filling my stomach so that I eat less.
Spicing up your food will also help you drink more water since the fire on your tastebuds will make you reach for the glass more often.
7. Use a straw.
It might seem like an odd solution but when you drink through a straw, you will drink more. I think this is probably some kind of mind trick. It might just be the lazy-woman’s way to avoid lifting a glass. But I think when I am drinking water through a straw, I drink more water and faster.
8. Splurge on a tasty beverage once a day.
Avoid getting burned out on water by giving yourself a special beverage treat once a day. Dasani Drops can be used to create adult beverages or just added to a sparkling water because bubbles are more fun.
One of my favorite treats? Create a spritzer with equal amounts of Moscato and Sprite. Add fresh fruit and a squeeze of Dasani Drops. Yum!
