Kindergarten in our family is more about participating in what is already happening, learning a few basics, and having fun than following a rigid formatted curriculum. Our kindergarten homeschool curriculum consists of easy books, apps, printables, workbooks, and educational toys.

Sounds like a fun way to do kindergarten. I want to know more about her lesson planning system too.

Our kindergarten studies tend to be thematic, either built around a holiday, letter, number, or shape. I organize the lessons for an entire year using file folders with one folder for each school day.

Easy Books for Kindergarten

  • My First BOB Books: Pre-Reading Skills
  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar
  • Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
  • Green Eggs and Ham (I Can Read It All by Myself)
  • One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish
  • Little Blue Truck
  • GOOD NIGHT, GORILLA (Picture Puffins)
  • Eating the Alphabet: Fruits & Vegetables from A to Z
  • Caps for Sale: A Tale of a Peddler, Some Monkeys and Their Monkey Business
  • Corduroy
  • Where the Wild Things Are
  • We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

Apps for Kindergarten

My children love having school time on the iPad, and honestly… it gives me time to focus on the older kids. So, I try to stock my iPad with fun and educational games.

Motion-Math-Hungry-Guppy-which-one-is-three_sm-150x150

  • Motion Math: Hungry Guppy – Motion Math
  • ABC Letter Toy – Letters & Numbers Handwriting Game for Kids – song zengqi
  • Hooked on Phonics Learn to Read Classroom Edition – Hooked on Phonics
  • MiniSchool – Divine ApS

Printables for Kindergarten

When the older children are working through a book or unit study and I can incorporate a similar theme for my younger children, I will create a Prek-K printable pack. All of these packs are available for free inside the Premium Member’s Library. You can get the membership for $25.

Workbooks for Kindergarten

You could spend a ton of money on workbooks for your kindergartener, but I tend to stick to those we find at the Dollar Tree. I take the books apart and stick the pages into the lesson file folders, following whatever letter or theme I have already placed together.

In addition to those workbooks I pick up from a dollar store, I create workbooks from the printable pages at Education.com. I also purchase Brain Quest Workbook: Kindergarten and Brain Quest Kindergarten: 300 Questions and Answers to Get a Smart Start to use as an assessment to see how much knowledge is being retained.

Educational Toys for Kindergarten

We have tons of educational toys… and I do mean tons. I think I am more addicted to buying learning toys than I am curriculum. These are just a few of our favorites.

About Tabitha

Hi! I'm Tabitha! But, I bet you expected someone named "Penny." Long story made short, Penny is the coupon binder I started in 2010 when we were totally broke... as in BANKRUPT. Now, as a mom of five, I make 6-figures a year working at home and share ways to help you move from penny to profit while you raise a family with sense on cents.
