My Backyard Scientist

Share & Help Me Grow
I am sure you realize without my telling you that your backyard is a treasure trove of science… Right? Just think about every tiny detail and all the possible discoveries just waiting to be uncovered by your budding scientist.
When I send my backyard scientists out, I love for them to take the Backyard Safari Mega Magnifier (pictured above). This is a kid-safe magnifying glass. The lens is actually some type of plastic so the images are not completely clear but the children love it. The scurry all around the yard looking for something new and then when they come in, I ask them to draw what they saw. Lira is old enough to write sentences to describe her illustrations.  It always amazes me what they notice. One note of warning: I learned the hard way that when the magnifiers go out, they must come back in! I take them and wash them and put them into our homeschool closet. My lesson comes as a result of one busted magnifier that now has its lens repaired with clear packaging tape. Someone put it on the ground and then someone else stepped on it. So, they are not the strongest of toys but we still enjoy having them.

About Tabitha

Hi! I'm Tabitha! But, I bet you expected someone named "Penny." Long story made short, Penny is the coupon binder I started in 2010 when we were totally broke... as in BANKRUPT. Now, as a mom of five, I make 6-figures a year working at home and share ways to help you move from penny to profit while you raise a family with sense on cents.
