Save those cardboard tubes and create New Year’s Eve Confetti Cannons for kids that they will love.
Find more fun family activities.
I like to go to bed early.
My mother used to say, “5 o’clock comes awfully early in the morning.” Now, I totally understand what she means. So I go to bed at about 9 pm each night.
But, when New Year’s Eve comes, I hype up on caffeine and try my hardest to stay awake because my children expect it.
As they have grown, their awareness of New Year’s Eve has changed. It used to be just another night. Now, it’s an occasion to party with food, confetti, and fireworks.
New Year’s Eve Confetti Cannons for Kids
If you want to add some pizzazz to your family New Year’s Eve celebration, create these Confetti Cannons from cardboard tubes. They are simple and the kids love to pull the balloon back and let the confetti fly.
Supplies:
- Printable confetti cannon wraps
- Confetti (or use a hole punch to create confetti from construction paper)
- Cardboard tubes (like clean toilet paper tubes)
- Glue
- Scissors
- Balloons
- Duct tape
- Washi tape
Cut the top off each balloon. If it’s confusing on which side is the “top,” I consider the part with the blowing hole as the bottom.
Tie a knot on the blowing end of the balloons.
It’s best to tie the balloon before the other steps.
Stretch the cut end of each balloon over one end of each cardboard tube.
Depending on the size of you balloon, try to pull the balloon up around the tube with at least one inch of the tie remaining loose.
Use duct tape to keep the balloon in place.
And don’t worry it is if ugly. You will cover it with the free printable confetti cannon wrap in the next step.
Print and cut apart the free printable confetti cannon wraps.
I personally use a guillotine cutter because I don’t have the patience to cut a straight line. (This is the guillotine cutter I have used since 2012. It never fails me.)
Wrap a printed confetti cannon wrap around each tube, lining the top of the printed wrap to the top of the cardboard tube, and attach with glue.
Use washi tape to cover the seam where the printed wrap meets the balloon.
Use a hole puncher to create confetti from construction paper or buy confetti in the party section of your favorite store. (I used gold star confetti.)
To use, add a 2 tablespoons (approximate) to the open end of the confetti cannon.
Hold the confetti cannon firmly in one hand while pulling the balloon with the other hand. The balloon until taunt.
Release the balloon and watch the confetti rain down on your celebration.
Enjoy the looks on your children’s faces as the celebrate the New Year.

It would also be fun to decorate the inside of your house with these confetti cannons. You could use them as party favors or give them out as gifts at the end of the night.
