Target’s Coupon Policy

Share & Help Me Grow

If you missed any of the posts from the Online Coupon Workshop, please visit the Online Coupon Workshop page under the Welcome Tab at the top of the page. If you missed yesterday’s lesson on how to match a price at Walmart, you can find it HERE.

If I must be honest, Target is one of my favorite places to shop. The deals can be great and the store I shop is clean. The employees are friendly. It is just a top pick for me.

Target is the first store we will dicuss that allows stacking, or using a manufacturer’s coupon and a store coupon together on one item. Their corporate policy is as follows:

*1 manufacturer’s (MQ) per item AND 1 Target Q per item
* May reduce the value of the store coupon if it exceeds the price of the item

Price Comp:              Yes — Will match price on exact item sold at a competitor’s store if listed in the sales advertisement.
* Will not match the prices from online or other Target stores
* No door busters or timed ads
* Will invalidate a Target coupon if the value of the coupon is less than the difference of the price drop
* Has stricter policies regarding price matching on produce and meat as they must be the same brand

The Target coupon policy and their policy on competitive price matching are available for viewing and printing.

Special Savings Situations

Special Purchase Incentive Gift Cards

Sometimes you will notice this in your sales ad:

  • Purchase “x” number of selected items and get a Target gift card
  • Do this transaction first and use the gift card to pay for the second transaction

Mailing List Coupons

Occasionally, you may receive a special “$5 off a $50 purchase” coupon in the mail with a pack of other store coupons when you are on the Target mailing list. Give the cashier this coupon before any other coupon.

To assure that you are on the Target mailing list, I recommend these four steps:

  1. Create a Baby Registry, even if you are not expecting. Many times the Baby Club coupons are for non-baby related purchases. It is not necessary to add items to the registry for the company to capture your mailing address.
  2. Create a wedding registry even if you are not getting married. It is not necessary to add items to the registry for the company to capture your mailing address.
  3. Call and request to be added to the mailing list at 1(800)440-0680.
  4. Create an account at Target.com.

Reusable Shopping Bags

Also, if you use a reusable shopping bag, you will get $0.05 for EACH deducted from your transaction. This can be any reusable shopping bag from any store. Paper bags do not qualify.

Target Debit Cards

Using a Target Visa card or Debit card saves you 5% on your shopping trips. While I do not recommend credit cards of any type, you can link your bank account through their debit program directly to the Target Debit Card. According to Target.com, “A Target Debit Card can only be used at Target stores. It draws right from your existing checking account, just like writing a check.” You can also receive up to $40 cash back at checkout.

About Tabitha

Hi! I'm Tabitha! But, I bet you expected someone named "Penny." Long story made short, Penny is the coupon binder I started in 2010 when we were totally broke... as in BANKRUPT. Now, as a mom of five, I make 6-figures a year working at home and share ways to help you move from penny to profit while you raise a family with sense on cents.
