2013 Family Goals

Setting goals is something our family does annually and our planning just happens to coincide with the beginning of a new year. I hesitate to call them “resolutions” because there is such a negative connotation that a resolution is made just to be broken. I prefer to call them “goals” since a goal is something your strive to achieve and if you do not reach your goal, you can keep trying… and trying… and trying.

Last year, our family goals were focused on getting things done. Being productive. Therefore, we named the year of 2012 “The Year of Productivity,” knowing that we would continue our pursuit in 2013, “The Year of Progress.” Our aim is diligence. To do all things well. To continue being productive. To the glory of God.

Consolidate our interests

This year, Bill and I will do something that has never occurred to us before… we will consolidate our businesses into one company. I am so excited about this as it will streamline our finances and make taxes so much easier. By bringing everything together, we will be able to function in a more organized way and expand our reach.

Take time off

Last year, we were so driven by our passion to pay down debt and to get things done, that we did not take a family vacation for the first time in years. While paying off debt is ALWAYS a good idea, skipping vacation was a mistake. You could certainly sense the void created by not having that time away from home to bond with one another.

Be financially responsible

Around March or April, we will make the final payment on our unsecured debt, leaving us with a mortgage. Having room in our budget will force us to strap down more than ever. Don’t be confused. We know ourselves very well and do not want to become relaxed to the point that we fall into old habits.

Now, as a mom of five, I make 6-figures a year working at home and share ways to help you move from penny to profit while you raise a family with sense on cents.
