Planning a Mother’s Day Tea Party with Kids

Share & Help Me Grow

If you are planning a Mother’s Day Tea Party and children will be involved, it is important to not only get the children involved, but to give them ways to serve their mothers.

Step-by-step Mother's Day tea party ideas for making the event special for mothers AND their children

Make the Tea Party Invitations

Ask the children to make the invitations. They can place tea bags in cute teapot-shaped invitations  or just put them in charge of delivering the invitations with a kiss.

Create tea party favors

Children can make sweet party favors for their mothers like a bonnet made from paper plates or a homemade Mother’s Day card.

Have child-friendly activities

Games are not typical for tea parties but you could easily keep the children entertained with these simple tea-themed ideas:

  • Play Tea Cup Stacking
  • Decorate tea cups
  • Make paper fans
  • Color tea party printables

I will never forget the tea party I attended where my daughter gave me a paper bonnet she made herself. Click the image for the tutorial.

Plan a simple menu

Maybe my children are the only ones but they do not like – what I call – mystery food. Too many ingredients in the recipe means they will immediately turn up their noses. So, to make your Mother’s Day tea party a success, keep the menu plain and simple.

Serve finger sandwiches, crackers with cheese, sliced cucumbers, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and cupcakes.

Read a story

Encourage mothers to snuggle their children during a sweet story time. Any of these books would be precious for a Mother’s Day tea party.

Have a photo booth

Allow mothers and children to get dress in fancy hats, boas, scarves, and jewelry for a sweet picture together. Frame each picture in a frame from the dollar store to send home as an extra party favor.

Laugh and have fun

Drinks may spill. Children might cry. Just be prepared to laugh and have fun despite any minor problems. Everyone will have a lovely time.

About Tabitha

Hi! I'm Tabitha! But, I bet you expected someone named "Penny." Long story made short, Penny is the coupon binder I started in 2010 when we were totally broke... as in BANKRUPT. Now, as a mom of five, I make 6-figures a year working at home and share ways to help you move from penny to profit while you raise a family with sense on cents.
