Preschool Workboxes: B is for Bugs, Beans, Balls and More!

Share & Help Me Grow

This week in Preschool, we were busy with a capital… ahem… B.

I really could not find any ONE thing that I wanted to settle on as a focus for the letter B because I want my little blessing to learn to think beyond the box and embrace all the beauty that makes up our brilliant language. Sorry, I got carried away in the buoyancy of the letter B.

B is for Bugs

Once again, I stand amazed at how smart my two year old is. (I think I might need to get another degree in order to keep up with the intelligence of my children!) This matching game was a snap for him. I love this cute printable from Lawteedah and it was easy to laminatepreschool letter b lesson and cut apart. Ruble enjoyed it tremendously and played with it over and over again.

B is for Beans

This is such a simple activity that is great for fine motor development as these beans are small and require precisin to place on the B made out of glue.

I was really surprised at how proficient Ruble was at this and, of course, I was very pleased that this activity was so easy to get together.

B is for Balls

This started out as a simple ball tossing game but Ruble just enjoyed taking the balls out of the container and putting them back it. He would carefully inspect each one and it was fun for me to watch as he develops his observation skills.

A great way to encourage your child to increase their observation abilities is to ask open-ended questions:

  • Which one is your favorite?
  • What do you like about it?
  • What color is that?
  • What does it feel like?

This was another simple transfer activity which builds fine motor skills. I gave Ruble some bamboo tongs and pom-pom balls. He transferred them from one bowl to another. We also divided them by color.

B is for Beads

I have no idea where these little snap beads came from but I mean to tell you, they are boogers to snap! Some are easier than others but I think we might need an upgrade.

B is for Beach

Ruble loves the beach and so we had to talk about it a little this week. I wanted to have some sensory play in the sand box but it rained. Every. Day.

So, we had to settle for some fun beach ball printables.

  • Had a “Dinner with B.” (Details to follow.)
  • Watched for birds.
  • Discussed B is for Bible with Raising Rock Stars by 1+1+1=1.
  • Made Banana Bread. (Details to follow.)
  • Floated boats in the bath.
  • Played with lacing beads.

Some other resources for the Letter B:

    • Printables by Spell Outloud
    • Cut and paste from Homeschool Creations
    • Tot School by 1+1+1=1

About Tabitha

Hi! I'm Tabitha! But, I bet you expected someone named "Penny." Long story made short, Penny is the coupon binder I started in 2010 when we were totally broke... as in BANKRUPT. Now, as a mom of five, I make 6-figures a year working at home and share ways to help you move from penny to profit while you raise a family with sense on cents.

What a wonderful blog you have. Such excellent ideas for early childhood education.
I have shared with my sister in law who blogs at paintontheceiling.blogspot.com as she also has so many creative ideas for preschoolers.

Thanks for linking up with the ABC’s of Homeschool. I really like this post. My youngest daughter would really get into the balls with 2 containers. I may have to use this for her while schooling the older 2. I really like your site. I am glad to have found you.

That looks like great fun! (And those little beads DO look like boogers to snap!) Looking back I wish I’d done something like you’re doing weekly when my kids were little, but I always had lots of bigger kids who really wouldn’t be able to tie in a letter theme a week, lol. It looks like he had fun!
