The sniffles are settling in.
Bill was very sick over the weekend and I think he might have brought a bug home from the high school.
Still, Day Two of our Pumpkins Unit Study was fun.
Glue Line Pumpkins
The glue line paintings were so much fun. They probably would have been prettier with regular, white school glue but I liked them this way too. The cardstock warped a bit but the final projects are still displayed proudly in our hallway.
Pumpkin Life Cycle
We reviewed the life cycle of a pumpkin and then decided to play a memory game. Unfortunately for Ruble, Franc and Lira figured out that you could see through the paper.
After the game, we put the pictures in order according to the cycle.
Then, the children made a mini-book from the pictures and placed it in their lapbooks.
Pumpkin Ring Toss
The ring toss was so much fun and an easy way to incorporate math into our study.
To make the rings, just twist some chenille stems together. I used some fake pumpkins from our fall decorations for the targets.
Franc counted by fives to help me decide how to assign a point value.
Each child tossed three rings at each turn and we rotated turns about four times.
After the game, Lira added up the scores and everyone was rewarded with a few cream pumpkins from Bill’s not-so-secret stash of Fall Mix.
A yummy treat for a job well-done.

No problem, Jamie. We outlined the picture, following the lines, with glue and let it dry overnight. Then, after the glue was dry, the children used watercolors to paint it. I think it turned out so lovely.
