When you understand how marketers think, you can save more. So, in an effort to educate, we are decoding the sales and tackling the questions that you are asking about saving money at the grocery store.
If a store advertises a group of items as 10/$10 or 2/$5, do you have to buy 10 items to get them for $1 each?
No. You DO NOT have to buy the advertised quantity to get the sales price. Items advertised as 10/$10 are really $1 each. Items advertised as 2/$5 are $2.50 each.
Pricing items in groups is a marketing ploy to plant a number in your mind and increase their sales. The only instances were you need to buy a specified quantity are when the sales ad states that a certain number must be purchased for the deal. For instance, if the store says you have to purchase TWO items from a selection of products to get them at certain price, you will need to purchase two. The advertisements are always very clear when this is necessary. So, if you do not see an explanation, you can safely assume that products marked 10/$5 are $0.50 each.
Why does it matter? If you only have one coupon, you do not need to fall for these marketing strategies. Just buy what you have covered by your coupons and avoid spending unnecessarily.
