When we went to visit my brother’s family in Greenville, South Carolina, the entire group of us made a trip to the zoo.
Okay, two side notes…
1) When you add my brother’s family and my family together, we make quite the parade. They have three children and we have four children. We almost needed a caravan to get us there.
2) The Greenville Zoo is the nicest, cleanest, most attractive zoo that I have ever been to and I cannot wait to go back and visit there again. While it may be small, it was the perfect size for our young ones to enjoy without growing too tired and cranky.
Now, back to the story…
At the very first exhibit, the children were greeted by a sweet lady sharing facts about monkeys and apes. The kids were spell-bound. I was inspired. After that, I started popping off the tiny bits of zoo animal trivia that I knew and I was thrilled when my sister-in-law offered her pieces of knowledge too.
Do you know why flamingos are pink? Do you know which zoo animals do not have vocal cords? Are zebras black with white stripes or white with black stripes? Well, we do!
I think the children were surprised that we knew so much. Maybe they were humoring us, but I came away feeling pretty smart.
I realized after returning home that I would have loved a sheet of zoo trivia to share with the kids during our field trip. So, I made one for our next trip… whenever that might be.

Hi there! I am from Milwaukee, WI, and I saw your post about the zoo. If you go to the Milwaukee County Zoo website, there are FREE printables/downloads for things like scavenger hunts in the zoo, and activity sheets to help kids learn about the animals while there. There are things to download for several ages/grade levels. Go to http://www.zoosociety.org/, and click on “Education” then on the pull down menu click “Fun Stuff”. Also, if you click on “School Programs in the same “Education” pull down, then click on “Field Trip Packets” there are more things to print for FREE too. Hope this helps out!

I loved it! And congratulations to Mrs. Giraffe. So happy to hear that she is expecting. We will come back for another visit after the baby is born. 🙂

Hi. Thanks for sharing your printable with us. We go to the local zoo every summer (not too big but big enough for little ones) and we’ll be going this next Sunday. Typically I go by myself with 10 kids (6 kids + 4 grandkids). We have the best fun especially when people have to stop and count us LOL
Thanks again for sharing and thanks to Julie D for sharing the website as well. As homeschoolers….I’m always looking for a way for the kids to pay attention to some of the small details 🙂
Have a blessed week.

Thank you, Vickie. I love that you are not afraid to take an entire troop to the zoo. Brave lady indeed. 🙂

I don’t know if it’s just me or if perhaps everyone else
encountering problems with your website. It appears as
if some of the text in your content are running off the screen.
Can somebody else please comment and let me know if this is happening to them
too? This could be a issue with my browser because I’ve had this happen previously. Appreciate it
