I know that I normally do one post for all of the items we had in our kindergarten homeschool workboxes but this one was so special… if I do say so myself… that I thought it needed its own post.
Franc studied the letter R one day last week and our focus was on Robots.
I was inspired by No Time for Flash Cards but took her idea one step further and made a Build-Your-Robot Game.
Constructing the Game
The Robot Spinner: Print on cardstock and laminate. I could not find a brad anywhere in my house so I used needle-nosed pliers to twist two paper clips together for the spinner. I also inserted a washer to make it glide easier. A button would probably work well too.)
The Robot Parts: Print on cardstock and laminate. Cut apart and then attach magnets to the back. Place the shapes on a cookie sheet or refrigerator.
How to Play
1. Flick the spinner and let it land on a shape. The word for the shape and the visual representation are both on the spinner to help build word recognition.
2. Choose the shape that matches the spinner’s pick. Each shape comes in a variety of sizes and colors.
3. Keep spinning until you are happy with your robot.
For Multiple Players
Players alternate turns with the spinner, building their robots as mentioned above.
The winner is the first person who has a robot with a head, body, two arms and two legs. Any additional embellishments are optional.
