Summer time in the south is synonymous with afternoon thunderstorms and that leaves parents searching for quick rainy day activities to keep the children entertained.
If your crew has a case of cabin-fever and you need somewhere to go and something to do, consider having a shape scavenger hunt inside a local mall or shopping center.
When you arrive at your destination, give each child a small sheet of paper with the shapes they need to find. For younger children, you can draw the shapes while you can challenge older children by giving them a list of words.
I ask my children to find a circle, square, parallelogram, diamond, and octagon but you can adjust the skill level by adding different mathematical or geometric shapes and requiring a certain number of each shape.
If you are not including a meal or shopping in your excursion, this rainy day activity is completely free but can take an hour or longer, depending on your list.
