How to Save Money on Data Plans #ItsANewDayForData

Share & Help Me Grow

This post brought to you by Sprint. All opinions are 100% mine.

So many of our friends have children who are beginning to drive or are in other situations where they need to have cell phones. The price of data plans can be a nightmare, but if your family has a similar need and you are struggling with the options available, I have found a few ways to save money on data plans, especially with the Sprint Family Share Pack.

Two great tips for how you can save money on the family's data plan. #ItsANewDayForData

Know How Much Data You Need

According to the friendly sales person when we bought our phones, the average person uses about 2 GB of data each month. Of course, we are not typical since we are a homeschool family with side businesses that require a lot of time online, but we do not play a lot of games and we can use our home wifi connection when we are not away.

By knowing how much data we need, we can accurately choose a plan that fits us.

Compare Data Plans

Looking at all the different plans can be overwhelming, but it shouldn’t be that way. Data plans should give you the data you need at a price you can afford. Sprint keeps it simple by offering the best deal in data. A family can get up to ten lines with 20 GB of data and unlimited talk and text for just $100 a month.

But obviously you do not need TEN lines to save. A family of four would save $60 a month while getting double the data of Verizon and more than double the high-speed data of AT&T and T-Mobile.

My husband and I share a plan that is equal to the cost of the Sprint Family Share Pack with only 25% of the data! Even with just two lines, we would be upgrading our service and saving right away!

Whether you have a small or large family, you will see savings.

Set Devices to Switch to Home Wifi

As I mentioned above, when we are at home, my husband and I have set our devices to use our home’s wifi. Since we pay a flat rate for unlimited service at home, we are saving our data for when we need it most.

Have Screen-Free Time

Another way to save? Have designated screen-free time when all the electronics must be turned off or placed on airplane mode. My husband and I force ourselves to unplug during family nights. By using airplane mode, we can still access our camera but not be annoyed with constant notifications.

Get Email Notices

Set up alerts so that if you are getting near your data limit for the month, you will receive an email or text. When the warning comes, you can crack down on the family’s usage.

Don’t Pay to Switch Services

If you find your service just isn’t meeting your needs, then switch to the Sprint Family Share Plan where you can switch without a problem.

If you have an existing number, no problem! You can take your existing number with you!

If you have an outstanding family contract, no problem! Sprint will buy out your existing family plan with a VISA Gift Card valued up to $350.

Hi! I'm Tabitha! But, I bet you expected someone named "Penny." Long story made short, Penny is the coupon binder I started in 2010 when we were totally broke... as in BANKRUPT. Now, as a mom of five, I make 6-figures a year working at home and share ways to help you move from penny to profit while you raise a family with sense on cents.

Or dump the expensive plans all together and switch to Republic Wireless. I have the $10 plan which only has data when I am on Wi-Fi, but my husband has the $25 plan with unlimited data even away from Wi-Fi. By switching our monthly bill for the 2 of us (our kids are not yet to phone age) our total bill is now $43. We fired our overpriced phone company years ago and I doubt we ever go back.
