Today, I want to tell you about a favorite website that I frequent thanks to a friend who told me about it. Since I am not supposed to be using my left arm (due to some ulnar nerve damage) and I going to be rude and copy/paste this from a very old post on my previous Penny page:
“Have you ever heard of Paperback Swap? I thought you might want to check it out. I found that book you were talking about (Cheap Talk with the Frugal Friends) on there. You post books that you want to give away and people can request them from you and you earn credits when you send them to others allowing you to request more books! You do have to pay to ship the books to others (usually between $2 and $3), but if it is a book that you might want to hold onto a while rather than having to return it to the library, it can be better than buying the book brand new. There are also DVD and CD swap sites as well.”
So, I had to go check it out and WHAT A FIND! They have almost 4 MILLION books available for FREE.
Here is what you do:
- Set up your account with your shipping information. You do not have to enter any type of credit card information. Just how to contact you. Amazing.
- List ten books to get two credits for ordering books. Books must have an ISBN number and must have the cover intact. You can list paperbacks, hardbacks, school books, children’s books, etc.
- Set up your favorite genre of reading (up to three) to personalize your preferences.
- Start browsing!
They have a search engine to make it easy when you are looking for something specific. Don’t see what you want available? Make a wish list and if a member adds it, you will get a message and have 48 hours to respond to the listing. (They even have some homeschool curriculum.)
Also, for those who get weak knees just thinking about technology, they give you a mentor to guide you through the site.
When I listed my first ten books to get my two credits, I received a message saying that someone was already waiting for one of the books I posted and I found a book I had been looking for and thinking of buying new!
If you do not want to list books on the site, you can always purchase credits to use to order books.
There is a ton of stuff available at this site. So much that I have not had time to see it all.
