This week at Science Saturday here and at The Homeschool Scientist, we are investigating the muscular system.
What you need
For Lesson 3 in Apologia Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology, we used the following items:
- Junior Notebooking Journal for Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology by Jeannie Fulbright
- Rubberbands
Free Anatomy Videos
As I did my research before the lesson, I discovered an amazing website that I have to share. Make Me Genius has some really amazing videos and powerpoint shows for various science studies. The children really enjoyed watching the video about muscles.
At one part during the video from Make Me Genius, they refer to the muscles as resembling the flexibility of rubber bands. So, I snuck away quickly and grabbed some for the children feel.
Franc decided to pretend that the crayons were bones and wrapped the rubber band around them to make it work like an elbow joint. Isn’t he smart?
If you have not been searching YouTube when putting your lessons together, try it this week. The kids really enjoyed watching the videos and I love the quality of the information.

Junior Notebooking Journal
If you have been attempting to work through this study without the Junior Notebooking Journal for Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology by Jeannie Fulbright, you are really missing out on some amazing resources.
I purchased two notebooking journals because I honestly didn’t think Ruble (the 3 year old) would be interested in this study. Wow. I was so completely wrong. So, I focus on a lot of group projects using the journal.
I cut the vocabulary puzzle out from the journal and the children put them together over… and over. Lira and Franc took turns reading the words and definitions as I smiled at their enthusiasm.
The children love the personal person from the journal. Each week, we add to our people… yes, PEOPLE. Since I bought two journals but have three children, we do not use a personal person for each child. Nope. We decided to make our people into super stars…

Taking a peek into the study over at The Homeschool Scientist has been really helpful for me. I love watching those vlogs. Don’t forget to stop by and see what they did this week.
Duh! Why didn’t I think of the rubberbands?! Great idea for studying muscles.
I take no credit for that. LOL If the video did not mention them, I would have been clueless too. 😉
