Speech Therapy Resources for Home

Share & Help Me Grow
One of my most popular posts is on Autism home therapy. That is why I am excited to have Yvie from Gypsy Road sharing speech therapy ideas you can use at home.
Our most frequent stop on the Special Needs Train is through Speech Therapy Depot.  We have been blessed with a fantastic therapist, who has been working with since age three to develop confidence as he overcomes these difficulties.

Speech Therapy Resources

Speech therapy can get expensive quickly, especially if you’re doing private pay.  If you’ve decided to try and go it alone, here are some excellent, vested resources to help you along.

Whil
While it’s not free, Super Star Speech has been an invaluable resource to us during our traveling months. It’s about a third of the cost of ONE speech session for the entire program.
This volume includes an articulation test to help you determine whether your child’s speech skills are age-appropriate, instructions for teaching every speech sound, practice pages and drills for every sound, over 600 picture cards, and dozens of practice games. You will find this to be a huge resource for helping your child correct his or her speech errors. This volume is priced at less than the typical cost of one speech therapy session!

Articulation in Speech Therapy

The speech wheel is a wonderful way to practice history, geography, science, and current events in the framework of speech therapy.  That’s not how we started out, but it quickly morphed into a cross-curricular exercise, as my son latched onto it with fervor.
  • To create a speech wheel, simply draw a circle, and put different topics in each spoke.  Use a paper clip for a spinner, and give it a spin each day!

Some days, he’ll tell us what’s going on in the United States or across the world (thank you, Little Passports, for the awesome maps!!).  Other days, we’ll get the weather report.  Here, he is giving us the standard Oklahoma winter-weather report….including sixty degree temperature swings!

About Tabitha

Hi! I'm Tabitha! But, I bet you expected someone named "Penny." Long story made short, Penny is the coupon binder I started in 2010 when we were totally broke... as in BANKRUPT. Now, as a mom of five, I make 6-figures a year working at home and share ways to help you move from penny to profit while you raise a family with sense on cents.

Thank you so much for this wonderful information! It is so useful for families. My passion is getting information to families with children with autism, through my direct work at my center in Paris and through my site, http://www.speciallearninghouse.com, which helps families adapt their homes to increase communication and interaction with their autistic children through fun learning projects. This post is awesome and I’m going to share it on my site!
