You cannot study the Letter C without cupcakes. I mean, seriously… There is even a book written about it: If You Give a Cat a Cupcake.
We just happened to have a great coincidence too as it was also PennyMom’s birthday! So, I allowed the children to plan her party, including the menu and decorations.
Lira was in charge of baking the cupcakes… with supervision, of course.
She practiced her match while lining the muffin pan with cupcake liners. Proudly, she proclaimed it “One Dozen” until I told her we needed another dozen. But, she was quick to add another twelve.
Then, she was able to practice her fractions and reading by telling me the ingredients and amounts we needed. I was so proud when she even held the mixer a little while because ordinarily, the noise and vibration would have been too intimidating for her.
There you go! Twenty-four lovely chocolate cupcakes.
Once they were cool, I put icing into a piping bag and sprinkles into a bowl for each child. We decided that I should do the icing and they were more than happy to do the sprinkles. I only had to say, “No eating or licking,” one time!
They were all so serious about getting the cupcakes just perfect for PennyMom’s party.
Next on our agenda, Franc planned the pattern for the balloons and did an excellent job!
I think PennyMom really appreciated all the effort and the children loved making her happy.
Take this a step further with your children and make is a taste test. What kind of things begin with the Letter C that can be used to make or decorate the cupcakes? Coconut, Candy, chocolate, cantaloupe, carrots (shaved), cherries… brainstorm with your children and make it fun.
