The art lessons last week went so well that I actually feel more creative… well, maybe not, but the children certainly have shown more creativity. Lira even drew up plans to build a rocket and got angry when I said I could not build it. Not kidding!
For this lesson I strayed from the book slightly because I thout this would be easier for young children and because Franc has been begging to paint.
What you need for this lesson:
- How to Teach Art to Children
- Paper plates
- Tempra paint
- Large sheets of construction paper
- Cookie cutters
- Smocks or old shirts
- Newspaper to cover the surface
- Wet wipes
Last week, we talked about lines and this week, we discover that when you put lines together, you make shapes. I started by drawing the different straight lines and asked if they remembered the names (vertical, horizontal, diagnoal, curved, etc.) Then, I used lines to draw a simple house and cresent moon, naming the lines as I drew.
We looked at the cookie cutters and the children pointed out the different lines they saw in each shape. It was then time to paint.
Place tempra paint on paper plates and allow the children to press the shape onto the paper.
Note the look of fascination on your childrens’ faces.
If you missed Chapter One, I’m so sorry! The blogosphere seems to have sucked it up into an abyss when I switched from Blogspot to WordPress and I can no longer find the post! Just know that it was REALLY good.
