Time Management for Kids

Share & Help Me Grow

Sometimes, I think I will go cross-eyed trying to motivate my children to do anything in a timely manner. Meals last until the food is cold and unappetizing. A math worksheet could take an hour. Cleaning their rooms can take days. All the while, there I am coaxing, pleading, yelling, bribing. I can hear Dr. Phil now… “How’s that working for you?” Yeah, it wasn’t and because I am not interested in pursuing insanity, I needed a solution.

When I bumped into the Learning Resources Time Tracker Programmable Electronic Timer, I heard angels sing. Not literally. Have not reached insanity yet, remember?

Now, I no longer stand on my head and beg. I let the timer, do the work. Set the clock and the lights and sounds count them down.

Since adding this timer to our home, we have more hot water, meals are more enjoyable, more math gets finished without a fight, and bedrooms… well… we still have some room for improvement. But, hopefully, they are learning some time management skills which will grow them into responsible adults.

About Tabitha

Hi! I'm Tabitha! But, I bet you expected someone named "Penny." Long story made short, Penny is the coupon binder I started in 2010 when we were totally broke... as in BANKRUPT. Now, as a mom of five, I make 6-figures a year working at home and share ways to help you move from penny to profit while you raise a family with sense on cents.

I have about 5 timers in my house (including the ones on the stove and microwave) and they have come in so handy when trying to get my kids motivated. I also use them to time how long they play video games (reward for getting chores done). 😉
