Picture three young children, two adults, and an infant on a nine hour road trip. It should not have been as hard as it was, but traveling with kids is never easy.
The confinement of car seats and monotonous scenery along the interstate created intense boredom, despite the fun activities I had packed for traveling with kids. So, we decided to stop for meals… big mistake… stretching our nine hour trek into 12 hours. Yes. TWELVE… as in half a day.
Needless to say I learned some valuable lessons from that trip with the most important tip being… don’t stop for meals.
On our next road trip, I picked up four baskets at a dollar store especially for meals as well as four water bottles. I also purchased travel snacks and bottled water (as well as wet napkins and a roll of paper towels.) The baskets stacked well and fit easily between the two front seats along with our bag of snacks.
At mealtimes, I was able to load up each basket and pass it back. When the children were finished, they could pass the basket back to the front with all of their trash, keeping our van neat and the children satisfied.
Have any tips for traveling with kids at mealtimes?
Make sure to leave a comment. Since I am traveling often, I need all the travel hacks for kids that I can get.
